Switching to Other Vehicle Insurance Companies

Reader’s Question:

I have been paying quite a lot on my premiums after I added my teenage son to my policy. Are there other vehicle insurance companies that give discounts, so I can switch to them for coverage?

Vehicle insurance companies typically charge more when teenagers are added as secondary drivers in the insurance policy. This is because they are greatly inexperienced behind the wheel. And as such, the threat of more accidents is highly possible. But parents should not be burdened by paying such high premiums just because they want to assure that their kids are adequately insured. Especially now that the prices of goods and services have gone up, budgetary constraints force others to sacrifice some of their needs to accommodate the requirement of vehicle insurance. This should not be the case as there are ways you can save on your premiums. If you let your teenage son attend a defensive driving class, then discounts of up to 60% depending on the vehicle insurance companies’ rating system will be given to provide that much-needed cut on your rates. This discount will be effective for up to three years provided that your son or any other driver listed in the vehicle insurance policy does not get any traffic tickets or get into any car crash after your rate was discounted. Most vehicle insurance companies also give good student discounts for those who are able to maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher. You may also get quotes from other vehicle insurance companies, so that you know how you are rated by them as this can support your case when you demand for lower rates from your current insurer.
